The Miami Dolphins traded cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in return earlier this offseason. The All-Pro safety was initially drafted by the Dolphins in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft and traded to the Steelers a year later.
Now, Fitzpatrick is back in Miami, where he started his career, and made it clear he is excited to be back and ready for the 2025 season.
"I'm extremely excited to be a Miami Dolphin," Fitzpatrick told the media Monday morning. "My silence was not in reflection of how I felt about this team... this is an organization that I'm extremely proud to be a part of."

The Dolphins' safety practiced each day of the team's first week of training camp last week, but did not speak to the media. Numerous teammates and head coach Mike McDaniel talked to the press about the safety's quiet leadership and head-down approach to the game last week.
Fitzpatrick voiced the same message Monday morning. He's ready to play football and contribute to this Dolphins' team.
"I am not a big social media guy. I’m not frustrated to be here. I appreciated my time in Pittsburgh. It’s unfortunate. But it’s business," Fitzpatrick said. "My silence was not a reflection of my excitement to be here. I’m proud to be here."
Fitzpatrick continued by saying he enjoyed his time in Pittsburgh and did not have any animosity toward the Steelers, but that he was disappointed with how it all ended.
After hiring a new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, this weekend, the Dolphins' safety also restructured his contract with the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon. The new contract gave Fitzpatrick a $2 million raise and cleared extra cap space for the Dolphins by converting money into a signing bonus.

So it’s a $2M raise this year for Fitzpatrick, who is now due $17.5M in 2025 and $15.6M in 2026, and more flexibility for Miami. pic.twitter.com/35NDqrcFRt
Fitzpatrick addressed the contract decision by assuring fans he plans on staying in Miami for the long term.
Despite the silence before Monday, the All-Pro safety had practiced every day and even collected the first interception of Dolphins' camp over the weekend. Fitzpatrick said he's excited for Miami's season, and he sees a lot of passionate guys around him that can accomplish a lot in 2025.
The Dolphins' safety broke his silence Monday morning, and did so in a very mature, straightforward way. Dolphins' fans can take a deep breath, because Fitzpatrick seemed to say all the right things this morning, and he looks happy to be back in Miami to help turn the team around in 2025.
