Dolphins Must Get This Upcoming Rebuild Right

I am 29 years old, which means I have been through many years of Dolphins football like this.

It seems like every few years, this franchise goes through a massive rebuild.

In 2007, the Dolphins went 1-15 under Cam Cameron and purged the team of many of its veterans.

That strategy seemed to pay off as they earned the number one pick and immediately went to the playoffs.

However, that success did not last very long as the team floundered over the next few years and decided to enter another rebuild by 2012.

That was the start of the Ryan Tannehill era that culminated with a playoff run in 2016.

After Tannehill’s injury and one playoff appearance, Miami decided to once again get rid of nearly all its veteran talent en route to another huge rebuild.

This time, it really seemed like the plan worked.

They drafted what seemed to be a franchise quarterback and were a top-two seed in a loaded AFC.

Similar to the last 25 years of Dolphins football, this rebuild, like the ones before it, fell flat on its face.

Now with a 1-6 record and again with a team full of expensive veterans, it looks like Miami is once again on a path to a massive rebuild.

Wait, what is the definition of insanity?

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?

That sums up the last quarter-century of Dolphins football.

For the Dolphins’ sake, this time, the rebuild has to work.

They presumably will have a new general manager, new head coach, and quarterback, along with a bevy of draft picks to play with after another roster purge comes.

This one will be similar to the one in 2019, where Miami will have to bite the bullet as they will still be paying heavy cap charges for a lot of players who are no longer with the team.

That, though, will give them ample opportunity to be a strong team in the future, likely starting in 2027.

Miami has to take advantage of the opportunity that comes with a rebuild.

They have already squandered their other opportunities to make the franchise a long-term winner.

A lot of fans have been continuously patient while they try to sort out how to win in the 21st century.

If the franchise screws up another rebuild, a lot of fans might never come back to root for this team.

The Dolphins have to get this one right.

Otherwise, there may not be anyone around for the next one.
