Dolphins’ Offense Needs to Carry the Team Early in the Year
In 2023, the Dolphins had one of the best offenses in the NFL.
With a high-flying, fast-paced offensive attack, Miami was able to throw and run the ball at will.
Remember when they scored 70 points against the Broncos?
Although the team struggled last season, many of the core pieces from the 2023 team remain largely intact.
And you can argue that the offensive line should be better than that season because it is younger, and all five players should be available more often.
Miami will need that offense to be clicking from the start of the year.
Why?
The team’s defense, with its returning coordinator, is in a state of flux.
There are question marks all along the front seven, especially the interior of the defensive line, with youth.
Two edge defenders, Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb, are coming off major injuries.
Additionally, the cornerback room is entirely unproven, and while the safety room added Minkah Fitzpatrick, the rest of the group consists of career backups or those with major injury histories.
It is easy to say that the Dolphins’ defense may take a couple of weeks to really become stout.
That is why it is imperative that Tua is healthy and the offense can score points in bunches.
There might be a few early shootouts, because thankfully, the early-season schedule features a couple of teams with unproven defenses as well.
Indianapolis, New England, New York, and yes, even Buffalo, have questions defensively.
So while Miami might surrender some big plays early, especially in the passing game, they should be able to do the same on the other side of the ball.
Along with the continuity on offense, there are guys with plenty to prove.
Tyreek Hill is coming off arguably his worst season as a professional.
You don’t think he will be ready to show that last season was a fluke?
How about Jaylen Waddle?
The same can also be said about the new acquisition, Darren Waller, who is looking to prove that he has something left in the tank.
For Miami to start fast this season, they will need these guys to step up.
If the Dolphins are going to play meaningful games late in the season, they will need to pad their win total while the defense is still finding its footing.
It would help if their offense could give them some help and score early, and often, early in the year.
