Dolphins offensive coordinator Chan Gailey resigns following 2020 season

After putting together their first winning season since 2016, it appears the Miami Dolphins will require a new offensive coordinator to work alongside Tua Tagovailoa.

The Dolphins announced Wednesday that Chan Gailey has resigned following his second stint with the club.

"I want to thank Chan for all of his hard work and dedication in what was a unique year," head coach Brian Flores said. "He played an important role on the staff and in the development of our young roster. I wish him all the best."

Gailey previously served as Miami's offensive coordinator in 2000 and 2001 before becoming head coach at Georgia Tech in 2002, where he coached until 2007.

The 69-year-old then joined the Kansas City Chiefs as offensive coordinator in 2008. He served as head coach of the Buffalo Bills from 2010-12 and offensive coordinator of the New York Jets in 2015 and 2016.

Miami hired Gailey to reunite him with veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who played for him in Buffalo and New York. The reunion worked well for Fitzpatrick, who went 4-3 this season, completing 68.5% of his passes for 2,091 yards and 13 touchdowns against eight interceptions.

It's unclear who the Dolphins may target to be the team's next offensive coordinator.
