Dolphins Offensive Lineman Andrew Meyer OUT for WEEKS

Miami Dolphins backup offensive linemen Andrew Meyer will be out for weeks, per Mike McDaniel at his media session on Wednesday morning.

Meyer has been Miami’s top backup offensive lineman this training camp and has been the backup center with Liam Eichenberg out at this time. With Meyer out, it means Miami is down to their 4th string center as the primary backup to Aaron Brewer.

Meyer was an undrafted free agent signed by the Miami Dolphins last offseason and has been one of the bright spots in this training camp thus far, surprising many with his play.

With Aaron Brewer missing the beginning part of camp, Meyer was thrust into the 1st string unit and played very well.

With no timetable for Eichenberg’s return and now Meyer out, it appears Daniel Brunskill will be Miami’s primary backup center and get a lot, if not all, of the work in these preseason games coming up vs Chicago and Detroit.

The Dolphins’ offensive line has been a point of contention for the team for many years now. The front office looked to go younger and address the position group this past offseason by drafting Jonah Savaiinaea and getting Patrick Paul into the starting lineup. They also signed James Daniels to play at right guard.

The depth on the offensive line has been a huge question mark, and those attending training camp have said the backups have struggled virtually every day in camp.

So, the loss of Meyer does hurt, on one hand. It will also give everyone else more opportunities to step up and gain playing time, allowing them to prove their worth for a roster spot come September.

I tend to believe, though, that the Dolphins will continue to work out players, look at the waiver wire when other teams make cuts, and explore the trade market to add offensive linemen to improve the depth of this position group.
