Terron Armstead has already made a decision on his professional football future, announcing in April that he would be retiring after a 12-year career in the NFL.
Two months later, the Miami Dolphins formalized that decision by placing Armstead on the team's reserve/retired list, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Armstead, who plied his trade at left tackle, spent the last three seasons of his career with the Dolphins, with whom he signed a five-year contract worth up to $87.5 million during the 2022 offseason. He played 2,032 snaps with the team across 38 starts, battling multiple injuries in the process.
Originally a third-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Armstead played his first nine professional seasons with the New Orleans Saints. One of his primary duties there was protecting the blindside of Drew Brees, who offered words of gratitude to Armstead at the latter's retirement party on April 5.
"I'll never forget the day that he showed up in our locker room back in 2013," Brees said in a speech at the event, via neworleans.football's Nick Underhill. "He didn't start that year off as the starter, but it became evident very quickly that this guy was not only going to be a starting left tackle for us for a very long time, but he was going to be a leader in our locker room. He was going to be a leader in the huddle, and he was going to be a leader throughout the league. He's exemplified what it takes to be a champion in this league, in the locker room, and with his teams for a very long time."
Overall, Armstead appeared in 135 games, starting 131 of them, and was a Pro Bowl selection five times. He also earned Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2018.
Armstead is an alumnus of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he played on the school's football and track and field teams. He made the All-SWAC Team on three occasions during his time at the university.
