Dolphins Place OL Jamaree Salyer On IR

Miami also waived cornerback Ethan Robinson with an injury designation. In two corresponding moves, the team signed quarterback Mark Gronowski and inside linebacker Cam Riley.

Salyer, 26, signed with the Dolphins after four years with the Chargers. The 2022 sixth-round pick was pressed into a major role as a rookie with 14 starts at left tackle, his primary position at Georgia. In 2023, he started every game at right guard with notable drops in his block grades from Pro Football Focus (subscription required). But the arrival of a new offensive coaching staff in 2024 put Salyer on the bench with Trey Pipkins – formerly Los Angeles’ right tackle – taking over the right guard job. Injuries still pressed Salyer into action in 2024 and 2025. He started nine games across the two seasons – three at right guard and six at left tackle.

The Dolphins signed Salyer to compete for a starting guard job following a disappointing rookie campaign for 2025 second-round pick Jonah Savaiinaea and the departure of Cole Strange in free agency. But Miami drafted Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor with their first-round pick in April’s draft and moved him to left guard, bumping Savaiinaea to right guard, “where he has thrived,” per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

As a result, Salyer was expected to back up both guard and tackle. However, his injury, which first sidelined him at the end of July, has ended his 2026 season before it even began. Savaiinaea now seems to have an unblocked path to starting at right guard.

Typically, when teams lose players to injury – as the Dolphins did with Salyer and Robinson – their corresponding signings backfill those positional rooms. But Miami needed quarterback depth following a groin injury to 2025 seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers during their preseason opener on Friday. He is likely to miss at least a week, so Gronowski, an undrafted rookie, will return to the Dolphins after spending spring practices and the first week of training camp with the team. 2025 sixth-round pick Cam Miller will also be in line for more work until Ewers returns.

Riley, a 2025 UDFA who spent his rookie year with the Titans, will add depth to the Dolphins’ linebacker room. Veterans Willie Gay and Tyrel Dodson combined for 52 snaps on Friday, but the team may want to reduce their workload for the next two games. Riley’s signing will enable such a move, though he will be a long shot to make the 53-man roster.
