Dolphins Potential Draft Plans Amid Jalen Ramsey News

Things are looking rough for the Miami Dolphins with less than two weeks until the 2025 NFL Draft.

On Monday, NFl.com insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported that the Dolphins and seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey are seeking a potential trade. While they didn’t say if both sides wanted a trade to happen by or during the draft, Ramsey will likely be playing for a new team in the 2025 season.

This is a tough pill for Dolphins fans to swallow, considering they’ve had a tough offseason of disappointing news after a disappointing season. Miami knew the plan ahead of time and it might be a coincidence that the news was happening right before the draft.

The news does suggest that the Dolphins now have to focus on finding their new No. 1 cornerback early in the draft process, possibly with the No. 13 pick.

Miami is reportedly heavily interested in Michigan cornerback Will Johnson. With Ramsey likely to be traded out of Miami, those reports are only more amplified.

Johnson’s stock has been declining slightly due to the hamstring injury he suffered last season, just coming out of the top ten. The Dolphins had the ninth-ranked passing defense in the league last season, but a lot of it was due to the impact of Ramsey’s high-caliber play.

Johnson is one of the top man-coverage players in this draft class, outside Colorado’s Travis Hunter. Miami drafting Johnson would help the defense rebound in a pinch and be a potential long-time leader on the defense.

The biggest drawback, outside of losing Ramsey, who could be traded on draft night, is the Dolphins’ inability to address the offensive line early. This is a position group that needs to be altered. The Dolphins might need to trade back into the first round for a high-caliber offensive lineman. A small package that includes Ramsey could help.
