Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa jumps to first in Pro Bowl voting

Move over, Justin Herbert. There's a new "social media QB." His name is Tua Tagovailoa.

The Miami Dolphins QB is the leading vote-getter for the first time. His jump to first coincides with fan voting opening up to Twitter users.

Per fan voting through Nov. 28, Justin Jefferson led the voting with 90,313 votes. Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes ranked second with 87,384.

Per NFL.com, "Starting Dec. 1, fans will be able to vote directly on Twitter for the final two weeks of Pro Bowl Games Vote."

Per the numbers released on Dec. 7, Tagovailoa made the leap to first and now has 138,390 votes.

Herbert detractors have derisively referred to him as a "social media QB" this season, suggesting he's not as good as people online say he is.

To fight their cause, they've rallied around Tagovailoa. The two QBs were drafted back-to-back in the 2020 NFL draft; Tagovailoa fifth to the Dolphins, Herbert one pick later to the Chargers.

Tagovailoa fell behind Herbert in the QB pecking order their first two seasons in the league, but with new head coach Mike McDaniel and the addition of Tyreek Hill, he's starting to look like the player everyone expected to go first overall prior to the 2019 college football season. Miami is 8-4 and second in the AFC East.

This year, Tagovailoa is 216-of-317 (68.1%) for 2,859 yards with 21 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Herbert is 340-of-510 (66.7%) for 3,339 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Los Angeles (6-6) has struggled to maintain consistency without top wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams for stretches during the season. Both QBs will have something to prove this weekend.

In his last game, Herbert was 28-of-47 for 335 yards and a touchdown in a 27-20 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. His completion percentage (59.6%) was his second-worst this season.

In Tagovailoa's most recent game, he struggled in a 33-17 loss to the 49ers. He was 18-of-33 for 295 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, losing to "Mr. Irrelevant" Brock Purdy.

He has a much more relevant game this Sunday, against Herbert and the Chargers on "Sunday Night Football."

Whatever happens, it will undoubtedly trend on social media. After the latest batch of Pro Bowl voting numbers were revealed, it seems as though it will be Tagovailoa supporters doing the talking.
