Dolphins Questioned by NFL Analysts Over Darren Waller Trade

The Miami Dolphins pulled off one of the more surprising moves of the 2025 NFL offseason when they traded with the New York Giants for tight end Darren Waller. He's coming out of retirement to play for Miami, something no one expected.

This deal was not only a surprise, but it has led to NFL experts and analysts questioning the Dolphins for the trade. Two analysts had major questions for the Dolphins after their trade for Waller.

Louis Riddick on Twitter/X said, "Dolphins, the very definition of uncertainty going into 2025. Have zero idea what this team will look like, play like, or come together like chemistry-wise. Zero. Fascinating to me."

Riddick's comments come on the heels of the Waller trade, as he's questioning the team for their direction. Waller's trade was one of the more questionable ones made, and CBS Sports writer Jeff Kerr also questioned Miami over the trade.

"Waller ended his early retirement to accept a trade to the Dolphins." Kerr wrote. "The former Pro Bowl tight end hasn't played for a year and is 32 years old, so it's unfair to expect anything from him at this point."

This comment from Kerr is another question directed towards the Dolphins. Kerr believes that Waller won't have much of an impact for the Dolphins, especially considering his age and being away from the NFL for a year.

Riddick is questioning the Dolphins' overall direction, while Kerr doesn't see how Waller will have an impact in 2025 for the Dolphins. Both view the Waller trade as an odd one and question the Dolphins for the trade.

It's a strange offseason for Miami so far, and this Waller trade further confuses things. Instead of landing a solid starter, they're taking a huge risk on someone who hasn't played in over a year.

For a team looking to be a playoff contender, this move is a major question mark. Waller is a huge risk, and the Dolphins are seemingly banking on him returning to form after a year away from the game.

Time will tell with the Waller trade, but the instant reaction is one of concern. Multiple NFL experts don't see the reason for this move, and have major reservations over the Dolphins heading into 2025.
