Dolphins RB Myles Gaskin positive for COVID-19, could play vs. Jets in Week 15

Largely out of nowhere, the Miami Dolphins became one of the positive surprises of the 2021 NFL season by notching five consecutive victories to improve to 6-7 ahead of their bye.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they encountered a bit of a setback before the second weekend of December.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Miami leading rusher Myles Gaskin has tested positive for COVID-19. While a positive coronavirus test on a Friday would knock any player out for the subsequent Sunday, Gaskin is fully vaccinated and, thus, could be cleared to face the New York Jets on Dec. 19.

As Charean Williams explained for Pro Football Talk, Gaskin can return to team activities if he produces a pair of negative virus tests at least 24 hours apart and stays asymptomatic for at least 48 hours. Per ESPN stats, Gaskin leads the Dolphins with 526 rushing yards and 154 carries, and he's tied for the team lead with three touchdowns on the ground.

Salvon Ahmed is second on the Dolphins with 149 rushing yards on 54 attempts.

Tennessee Titans star safety Kevin Byard avoided missing a game when he was recently placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list during his team's bye but then activated earlier this week. Miami will hope to receive a similar update regarding Gaskin's status at some point next week.
