Dolphins Re-Sign Embattled Offensive Lineman
Dan Powers/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin.

The Miami Dolphins fanbase has been screaming for offensive line additions all off-season. The team obliged, signing one of the top guards on the market (Pittsburgh Steelers free-agent James Daniels) and a backup swing tackle (Chicago Bears free-agent Larry Borom).

Miami's latest OL signing might not be as celebrated. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN , "offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg is re-signing on a one-year deal with the Dolphins."

Eichenberg's time with the Dolphins has been rocky- to say the least- and he's become a bit of a punching bag for the fanbase. The last thing they wanted to see was the embattled offensive lineman back in Miami, but head coach Mike McDaniel and OL Coach Butch Barry need bodies up-front.

Eichenberg played collegiately at Notre Dame, excelling as their starting left tackle from 2018-2020. During his final season, he was named All-ACC and a Consensus All-American.

The Dolphins drafted Eichenberg in the second round (No. 42 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. He's started 52 games over his four-year NFL career, including 14 as Miami's starting right guard last season.

Eichenberg's return isn't what Miami fans hoped for when they talked about offensive line additions, but the rationale makes sense from Miami's point of view. Eichenberg has starting experience, knows the system, and won't break the bank.

Assuming a full return to health, Daniels is locked in as Miami's starting right guard in 2025. However, Achilles injuries are notoriously unpredictable for offensive linemen. Eichenberg's return gives Miami a below-average insurance policy if the injury lingers.
