UPDATE: Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reports that this only adds $2 million to his deal this year and takes that $2 million from money he would receive next year, and does not add $16.4 million of new money to his deal. And this move opens up $11 million in salary cap for the Miami Dolphins right now.
The #Dolphins signed Minkah Fitzpatrick to a revised contract, moving up $2 million to this year in a move that clears about $11M in cap space.
So it’s a $2M raise this year for Fitzpatrick, who is now due $17.5M in 2025 and $15.6M in 2026, and more flexibility for Miami. pic.twitter.com/35NDqrcFRt

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports on Sunday morning that the Dolphins have reworked the contract of Minkah Fitzpatrick. They haven’t added any years on his deal, but have given him $16.42 million of new money in the form of a signing bonus.
Fitzpatrick didn’t have any guaranteed money on his deal.
Fitzpatrick’s agent Drew Rosenhaus, said;
“We are comfortable with this commitment to Minkah as we continue to work with the Dolphins on a multi year extension,”

Fitzpatrick was a 1st round pick of the Dolphins in 2018 and spent only one season with the Dolphins before being sent to Pittsburgh.
With Pittsburgh, Fitzpatrick is a 5-time Pro Bowl safety and a 3-time first-team All-Pro. He is one of the elite safeties in the NFL today.
He will be asked to be the anchor of Miami’s secondary, which has a lot of holes, but Fitzpatrick will go a long way in having the unit be respectable in 2025.
Fitzpatrick has played in 106 games, started 101 and has 20 career interceptions and 608 career tackles.
Even with Fitzpatrick on the roster and happy now with new money the Dolphins’ secondary right now is in shambles, with Miami losing all four starters from last season. This offseason, they have added Ifeatu Melifonwu and Ashtyn Davis at the safety position. They have yet to add a cornerback and will now depend on Cam Smith, Storm Duck, and Kader Kohou, as well as the three new cornerbacks they signed in the past 72 hours, Jack Jones, Cornell Armstrong, and Mike Hilton.
Next we will see what Miami does with Zach Sieler as he is looking for new money as well and a new or re-worked contract.
