Dolphins release starting OL Jesse Davis, former 1,000-yard WR Allen Hurns

The Miami Dolphins shocked the NFL world on Wednesday when they traded for Kansas City Chiefs three-time First-Team All-Pro Tyreek Hill. They were busy again on Thursday with a couple of more moves.

Davis has been with the Dolphins since 2017 and has played in all 80 of his NFL games with the club, making 72 starts. The native of Asotin, Wash., has four career fumble recoveries, including one in 2021, and has been on the field for at least 900 offensive snaps every year since 2018.

Hurns was born in Miami and played college football for the Hurricanes, but spent the first four seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. As a rookie in 2014, Hurns led Jacksonville in receiving touchdowns with six, while ranking second on the squad in targets (97), receptions (51) and receiving yards (677).

His breakout campaign — and best season to — came in 2015, when he racked up career highs across the board in targets (105), receptions (64), receiving yards (1,031) and receiving touchdowns (10). Hurns was second on the Jaguars in each category, trailing only Pro Bowler Allen Robinson.

Hurns signed a four-year, $40 million contract extension with the team in June 2016 but has battled numerous injuries since then. He was limited to 11 games that year and 10 in 2017 before being released by Jacksonville in 2018.

The 30-year-old spent the 2018 campaign with the Dallas Cowboys, but was released by the team in July 2019 and picked up by the Dolphins. He opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was placed on season-ending injured reserve in August 2021 before the campaign began.
