Dolphins Reportedly Eyeing Raiders TE After Jalen Ramsey Trade

The Las Vegas Raiders have been looking to dramatically upgrade their roster this offseason after a brutal four-win campaign in 2024. Cornerback has been one position in particular that the fan base is worried about, given the lack of experience.

That made Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey an obvious trade target, as the seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro made it known that he was unhappy with his current situation.

Unfortunately for the Raiders, Ramsey was traded to the Steelers  on Monday in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, tight end Jonnu Smith and a late-round pick swap in the 2027 NFL Draft.

While the Raiders may not have gotten Ramsey, the Dolphins gave away their starting tight end. According to reporter Omar Kelly, Miami is reportedly interested in one of Las Vegas' young talents to fill the void left by Smith.

"Miami has had their eye on Raider TE Michael Mayer for a while," Kelly wrote. "He’s had some on and off-field challenges with the Raiders. But he’s slated to make $1.6M in 2025 and $2M in 2026."

Mayer came to the Silver and Black in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. His quarterback situation has been abysmal, and he did take some time away from the team last season, but his first two NFL campaigns have not lived up to expectations.

Through 25 career games, Mayer has recorded just 48 catches for 460 yards and two touchdowns. He has also missed nine games in just two seasons.

With the emergence of Brock Bowers in Las Vegas, many felt that Mayer could be expendable. The Raiders were reportedly checking the pulse on what his trade value was earlier this offseason as well.

Nothing is imminent for these two teams, but NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the Dolphins are actively shopping for tight ends. Raiders general manager John Spytek should expect a call from Miami about Mayer.
