Dolphins reveal how WR Tyreek Hill could face Jets

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel spoke with reporters on Friday about how it will be determined if All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill plays through an ankle injury in this Sunday's home game against the 5-8 New York Jets.

"Bottom line is we'll have a conversation that will be based on -- remember, this is Tyreek Hill's career," McDaniel explained, as shared by Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN. "He's a very experienced player. I handle very experienced players different than I handle younger guys, because they know what they signed up for and it's his career."

Hill suffered his setback in the first quarter of what became a 28-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans this past Monday night that dropped the Dolphins to 9-4. Per Louis-Jacques, Hill participated in only 47% of Miami's offensive snaps in that defeat.

The Dolphins enter the weekend holding the No. 2 seed for the AFC portion of the postseason tournament. The 10-3 Baltimore Ravens are atop the overall conference standings, while the 8-5 Kansas City Chiefs are third via tiebreaker advantage. The 7-6 Buffalo Bills are second behind first-place Miami in the AFC East standings.

ESPN stats show that Hill began Friday leading the NFL with 1,542 receiving yards and 12 touchdown catches for the season. He's second with 97 receptions and tied for fifth with 132 targets.

"If he's confident that he can go be himself, and I have the support of the trainers that are responsible to the risk, then he'll play," McDaniel added about Hill. "If not, then he won't, and literally every hour, for him, is imperative."

After McDaniel offered his update, oddschecker listed the Dolphins as massive 9.5-point favorites against the Jets. While it seems like Hill could be a game-time decision on Sunday, McDaniel may want to ask the 29-year-old to sit Week 15 out to get the speedster closer to 100% for Miami's Christmas Eve home matchup against the Dallas Cowboys (10-3).
