Dolphins Rumors: Chop, Sieler, Jackson

With the Dolphins in the early stages of a full-blown rebuild and off to a 1-5 start, they could be open to shipping out some players before the Nov. 10 trade deadline. Edge defender Chop Robinson is among Dolphins who are expected to draw interest, but the team is inclined to keep him, according to Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Although previous Dolphins general manager Chris Grier drafted Robinson, the 2024 first-round pick has apparently impressed new GM Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley enough to emerge as a core player. The Dolphins regard Robinson as “part of their future,” per Rapoport and Schefter, making a trade unlikely. If Miami keeps Robinson into the spring, the team will have to make a decision on his fifth-year option for 2028.

To this point, Robinson’s rookie season stands out as his most productive. He played every game and put up career bests in tackles (26), quarterback hits (14), tackles for loss (eight), sacks (six) and pass deflections (four). Robinson missed two games last year and finished with lesser numbers – including seven QB hits and four sacks – and Pro Football Focus ranked his play an unimpressive 100th out of 110 qualified edge defenders.

Hafley called on Robinson to “become a complete football player” over the summer, and though the 6-foot-3, 265-pounder missed Week 2 with a concussion, he is on pace to approach or set new career highs in multiple categories. No longer stuck behind the likes of Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, Robinson has worked as a full-time starter for the first time and tallied 10 tackles, eight QB hits and two sacks in five games. Even though PFF still doesn’t see Robinson as a high-end edge defender, he has improved to 73rd out of 113 qualifiers at the position.

While it doesn’t look as if Robinson will go anywhere in the next couple weeks, Jason La Canfora of Casino Guru News names defensive tackle Zach Sieler and right tackle Austin Jackson as trade candidates who have value around the league. Sieler, who is under contract through 2029 on a three-year, $64MM extension, has made it clear on multiple occasions (most recently last week) that he doesn’t want to leave Miami. For what it’s worth, a Sieler trade would shock his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald writes.

Unlike Sieler, the 27-year-old Jackson is due to become a free agent in the offseason. In the meantime, he is playing for a minimum salary ($1.23MM) and a $6.67MM cap charge. Injuries limited the career-long Dolphin to just 14 of a possible 34 regular-season appearances from 2024-25, but he has started in all of their games this year. While Jackson’s rebound from a health standpoint has been encouraging, he is PFF’s lowest-ranked tackle among 71 qualifiers.
