Dolphins Sign OG Cole Strange

With James Daniels out 3 to 4 weeks, the Dolphins have signed offensive lineman Cole Strange off the Cleveland Browns’ Practice Squad.

Strange was a 2022 first-round pick by the Patriots and was a surprise cut by New England a few weeks ago.

Strange has played in 30 games, starting 29 of them.

In 2024, he played in 3 games and started two. He missed most of the season with a knee injury, and New England activated him on December 10, 2024, late in the season.

Ignoring his 2024 stats since he played so little, his 2023 PFF numbers are this. Overall grade of 64.6, ranking 34 out of 136 centers. A run blocking grade of 66.2, ranking 24th out of 136 centers. A pass blocking grade of 57.7, ranking 70 out of 136 centers.

Strange can play guard or center, and should give Miami short-term depth on the offensive line until Daniels returns.

Expect Kion Smith to start in place of Daniels while he is out.

The biggest free agent acquisition for the Dolphins, James Daniels, didn’t last many plays before suffering an injury this season.

Early in the 1st quarter, Daniels had to leave the game with a Pectoral injury. His return is questionable.

The Miami Dolphins signed guard James Daniels to a 3-year $24 million deal with $10.735 million guaranteed.

Daniels is a former first-round pick out of Iowa by the Chicago Bears. HE signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022.

Daniels has played in 90 games, starting 84. In 2024, he only played in 4 games as he tore his Achilles tendon in week 4 of the season. Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the offer was made to Daniels after his medicals cleared, and he is expected to be able to do football drills this May or June.

In 2023, when Daniels started 15 games, PFF gave him a 62.1 overall grade, ranking him 39th out of 136 guards. A 60.4 pass-blocking grade, ranking 57 out of 136 guards. And a 60-run blocking grade, ranking 52nd out of 136 guards.
