Dolphins Sign Undrafted QB They Previously Brought in for Top 30 Visit
On Friday, the Miami Dolphins officially announced the signing of 11 undrafted free agents, including one quarterback fans are already familiar with.
The Dolphins are adding former University of Iowa star signal-caller Mark Gronowski to the fold. Back in mid-April, with the 2026 NFL Draft just a stone’s throw away, Miami invited Gronowski to town for a Top 30 visit. He just so happened to be the second quarterback the Dolphins held a Top 30 visit for that day, as Jalon Daniels — who also went undrafted — stopped by as well.
Miami clearly sees something in Gronowski in the sense that the team used one of its finite private visits on him, but that doesn’t change the fact that his odds to make the final roster are long. After all, there are three signal-callers ahead of him on the totem pole — even in the Dolphins’ sub-par quarterback room — in Malik Willis (the clear starter), Quinn Ewers (the QB2 with starting experience already under his belt), and former Raiders sixth-rounder Cam Miller. It’s tough to envision Miami either heading into the season with a whopping four quarterbacks or getting rid of one of those three guys to make room for an undrafted free agent.
Gronowski, a 24-year-old rookie, capped off his collegiate football career in style with the Hawkeyes after carving out a four-season stint at South Dakota State University. His main appeal is that he’s a uniquely dangerous rushing threat at the quarterback position, as the Illinois native paced the Big 10 conference with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2025.
Even though Gronowski probably hasn’t found a long-term home in Miami, that doesn’t mean he won’t get his opportunity to make an impact with another team. Maybe a chance to show off his dual-threat chops is all he needs to prove that he’s worth holding on to as a backup.
