Miami Dolphins backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater knew what the player in front of him on the depth chart, Tua Tagovailoa, was going through on Thursday Night Football.
Tagovailoa was rag-dolled to the ground late in the second quarter and suffered an apparent head/neck injury. It was so bad that his arms seized up and he had to be taken off the field on a stretcher, and ultimately taken to a local hospital via an ambulance.
Ironically enough, Bridgewater suffered a concussion of his own against the Bengals last season, when he was the quarterback of the Denver Broncos. He also had to leave the game on a stretcher and in a neck brace, so talking on Thursday Night after Miami's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals -- Bridgewater seemed almost taken back to that Week 15 matchup with the Bengals in Colorado.
“For me personally, there was a lot going through my mind, honestly,” Bridgewater said, per Pro Football Talk. “Given that against the same team I was carted off the field, so a lot just going through my mind."
With that said, Bridgewater did know that he had a job to do. Tua may have left the game in an ambulance, but the game wasn't over. That's not how the NFL works.
Tagovailoa was slammed to the ground with 5:50 to go in the second quarter of a game Miami was losing just 7-6. Bridgewater knew coming in that he had more than half of a game left in order to try to help the Dolphins move to 4-0 on the season.
"I knew I just had to snap, and try and lead this team to a victory. So many guys were counting on, not only myself, but us to go out there and finish that game, and try to get a win, and ultimately we came up short," Bridgewater said.
Miami lost 27-15. Bridgewater finished the game completing 14-of-23 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown. He did also through an interception, though, as he finished with a QBR of 80.2
