Dolphins teeter on brink of chaos after 33-27 loss as Tua Tagovailoa vents about a flaw that has haunted Miami for years

The Miami Dolphins had two cracks at it. Trailing 30-27 and 33-27 in the final three minutes against the New England Patriots, Tua Tagovailoa managed to work his offense near midfield on the first possession and deep into Patriots territory on the second. But both drives faltered for reasons that should be very familiar to fans of the Dolphins in recent years.

Procedural issues. Too many men in the huddle leads to a delay of game. False starts as the offense frantically tries to get everyone lined up. Having to choose between your last timeout and another five yards when facing 1st & 15 from the Patriots' 31-yard line. It's baffling — and not just for fans.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa voiced his frustration in the post-game press conference as well. And in the midst of his answer, a snowball of blame appeared to start rolling down the hill. Look out below!

Tua Tagovailoa voices frustration on Dolphins game operations after another baffling performance

"That was really frustrating. I was frustrated with the communication, with the guys inside the huddle, what the personnel is, the play for those guys. If we have too many guys in (the huddle), why do we have another guy running in? Just the whole operation of that was not up to standard, it was not up to par. I've got to do a better job with our guys in that sense," said Tagovailoa.

But here's the thing. Tua Tagovailoa is not calling in personnel packages. He's not calling the plays. He's not responsible for making these decisions and he's fully at the mercy of those on head coach Mike McDaniel's staff. That includes McDaniel, who to his credit did state that everything starts with him. But McDaniel, for his part, also conceded that he's "very frustrated (with) coaches and players did not execute communication in a very dire period of the game with the game on the line" during his own player availability. He appeared to insinuate that at least one delay was not by fault of the timeliness of the decision of the call, as well.

And so it begins. Mike McDaniel's big rallying cry after the Week 1 loss to the Colts was that the team "did not splinter" amid the carnage. The dust hasn't even settled from the late game gaffes that cost the Dolphins a chance to win the football game and the quarterback and the head coach have both launched salvos at other members of the organization for the issues at hand.

Tagovailoa had his own missteps. He appeared to have tight end Julian Hill for a completion and a chance at a first down on the interception that came in the final three minutes with the Dolphins trailing by three points. Just before that, he also missed an open Tyreek Hill for what would have been a first down in Patriots territory. But he and the rest of the players are right to be frustrated in this regard. One week after the Dolphins were flagged for 12 men in the huddle on a 2-point attempt versus the Colts, they nearly got called again for it during a potential game-winning drive coming off of a stoppage in play.

It's inexcusable. And the question now is who the powers that be ultimately decide is going to be at fault for it. Everyone paid for it on Sunday, with the Dolphins fumbling multiple possessions in the final minute with a chance to recapture the lead. They're now 0-2 and will continue searching for answers on a short week with a date with the Bills on Thursday night.

That's not a great place to be, even if there's clarity in the aftermath. Neither is exchanging salvos of blame in Week 2.
