Dolphins to hold second interviews with Mike McDaniel, Kellen Moore for HC position

The Miami Dolphins are narrowing their field of candidates for their vacant head-coaching position. According to multiple reports, San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore are among the finalists.

San Francisco's season came to an end at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game. The Cowboys were eliminated in the NFC wild-card round after an upset home loss to the Niners.

Brian Flores served at the helm of the Dolphins over the last three seasons, recording a 24-25 mark and failing to make the postseason. He was fired on Jan. 10 after a second straight winning campaign, as Miami finished the year by winning eight of its final nine to wrap up a 9-8 overall campaign.

Following a brief playing career with the Cowboys and Detroit Lions (appearing in only three NFL contests), Moore took a job as the Dallas quarterbacks coach in 2018. He then transitioned to the role of offensive coordinator for the franchise and has worked in that position the last three seasons.

McDaniel began his coaching career with the Denver Broncos as an intern in 2005, before serving as an offensive assistant with the Houston Texans from 2006-08. The 38-year-old then held the role of running backs coach with the Sacramento Mountains of the UFL in 2009 and 2010, before returning to the NFL as an offensive assistant with Washington in 2011 and 2012.

The Aurora, Colorado native was Washington's wide receivers coach in 2013 and held that post with the Cleveland Browns in 2014, and then was an offensive assistant with the Atlanta Falcons in 2015 and 2016. McDaniel joined the 49ers in 2017 as their run game coordinator and held that job until he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2021.
