Dolphins to Host Edge Rusher Matthew Judon Today

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz is reporting that the Dolphins will host four-time Pro Bowl OLB/EDGE Rusher Matthew Judon Today. Per Schultz, both sides are eager and motivated to get a deal done.

Chris Grier tried trading for Judon last offseason, but New England traded him to Atlanta.

Matt Judon is 33 years old and a former 5th-round pick of the Ravens in 2016. He has played for the Ravens, Patriots, and Falcons.

Last season in Atlanta, he played in 17 games, started 15, had one interception, and 5.5 sacks.

For his career, he has 72 sacks in 131 games played, of those 131, he started 97.

It is a bit puzzling why Miami is considering another edge rusher, given their depth at the position with players like Chop Robinson, Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, Derrick McLendon, Grayson Murphy, and Quinton Bell.

The fact that they want to add a pass rusher tells me one of three things. 1) Someone is injured and they haven’t disclosed it yet. 2) They don’t trust Chubb or Phillips to stay healthy for a full season. 3) They are planning on trading Chubb or Phillips to get help at Cornerback or Safety.

As stated, Grier has been fascinated by Judon for years, and maybe he feels this is his best shot to sign and land the player.

His PFF numbers last season weren’t great if you’re into PFF. Overall grade of 43, Pass Rush grade of 53.9. and a run defense grade of 53.6.

The Dolphins are in dire need of help at cornerback and safety. If they are interested in signing players, they should be looking at those two positions. Or even tight end where they have very little going on with the current group in camp at this time.

Edge rusher is arguably the deepest position on this team currently, so something is going on here that we may not have the full story on.
