Dolphins to Interview Chargers DC Jesse Minter

NFL Insider Albert Breer reports the Miami Dolphins will interview LA Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter for their vacant head coaching position.

Minter is 42 years old and viewed as a hot up-and-coming assistant coach who is poised to land a head coaching position this hiring cycle.

Minter is also interviewing with the Browns, Falcons, Giants, Ravens, Raiders, Cardinals, and Titans.

Every team with a head coaching vacancy is going to meet with Minter.

Minter was a defensive assistant coach with the Ravens between 2017-2020.

He then went to Vanderbilt to be their defensive coordinator for one season, before going to Michigan with Jim Harbaugh to be his defensive coordinator for two seasons.

He was the Wolverines’ defensive coordinator for their national championship season, and he then followed Jim Harbaugh to the Chargers to be their defensive coordinator for the past two seasons.

While many Miami Dolphins fans want the team to hire a head coach with prior head coaching experience, the Dolphins may not be able to as they are viewed as the worst head coaching position open at this time due to salary cap constraints and the lack of a franchise quarterback.

So, if Miami is forced to go with a first-time head coach, landing Minter would be a huge get, as he is maybe the most popular head coaching candidate right now outside of John Harbaugh.

The big question with Minter, since he is a defensive coach, is who will be the offensive coordinator that he will want to call plays on that side of the ball.

If he has an offensive coordinator lined up, I am sure Minter will have multiple head coaching offers to pick from.
