Dolphins to Reunite with Wide Receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr
The Miami Dolphins didn’t wait long to add a wide receiver to the fold in the wake of wide receiver Tyreek Hill‘s season-ending knee injury. According to multiple reports, Miami has signed former Dolphin Cedrick Wilson Jr. from the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad.
The Dolphins are hoping that Wilson will be able to keep their receiver corps competent with Hill on the shelf. Fortunately, he has plenty of experience playing under head coach Mike McDaniel and alongside quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and that should ease his transition from New Orleans.
Wilson logged 30 games with Miami across the 2022 and 2023 seasons, though he was never a top target during that time, as he totaled just 432 receiving yards in that span. He also never finished with more than 52 receiving yards in any one game in his first stint with the Dolphins.
But considering Hill and Jaylen Waddle were both elite receivers for Miami in that two-season timeframe, people should take Wilson’s uninspiring receiving numbers with a grain of salt.
Wilson should have more opportunities to produce this campaign compared to back then, with Hill out for the season and Waddle looking like a husk of his former self. The No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is averaging a career low in receiving yards per game so far in his fifth pro season.
It would be great to see the Dolphins throw Wilson into the fire right away and have him suit up when they take on the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 5. That would give him a chance to get his feet wet with the Dolphins against a mediocre Panthers defense. Carolina’s defensive unit has allowed 23.8 points per game through the team’s opening four games of the 2025 season. Plus, the Panthers are on the heels of giving up 42 points to the New England Patriots.
