Whispers regarding the relationship involving Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Tyreek Hill reemerged after it was learned that Hill wasn't voted a team captain for the 2025 season.
While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, both Tagovailoa and Hill attempted to put the matter to bed for the foreseeable future.
"I mean, we've worked on it, and I think that conversation is dead now," Tagovailoa said, as shared by Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN. "I think once people see Tyreek score on Sunday, everyone will forget about that. So, we're in a good spot and we've been in a good spot for some time as well, so I'm really happy with that."
This particular Hill-related saga arose when he subbed himself out of Miami's 2024 regular-season finale and then told reporters this past January that he was "out." He later publicly apologized to Tagovailoa and other teammates during a Super Bowl week media appearance, but the signal-caller generated headlines when he said early into training camp that Hill needed to "build everything up again."
On Wednesday, Tagovailoa suggested that outsiders might've blown that comment "out of proportion." Meanwhile, Hill insisted he and Tagovailoa are good heading into Miami's regular-season opener at the Indianapolis Colts.
"At the end of the day, me and Tua know exactly where we stand at," Hill explained. "He knows and I know that we both have a brother for the rest of our life. We going to continue to build each and every day. ... Brothers fight all the time. I fight with my brothers, we go at it all the time -- but at the end of the day, we know what the main goal is. We still a family."
Tagovailoa failed to notch a single playoff win over his first five pro campaigns, and both he and head coach Mike McDaniel could be shown the door during the winter if Miami doesn't at least participate in a postseason game this coming January. As of Thursday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the 2025 Dolphins as +220 betting underdogs to qualify for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, ESPN Bet had the Colts as 1.5-point favorites over the Dolphins for Sunday's matchup.
