When you are a young pup coming into the NFL, and you really think you're good, it can be kind of hard not to have an ego or feel like you're the guy, like you were in college. But in the NFL, with the Las Vegas Raiders, that ego stuff doesn't work out.
They are establishing a new culture with Pete Carroll as the head coach, one that you may recognize from his time with the Seattle Seahawks. So, yeah, if you're a young guy, don't be cocky, take in everything you hear from the older guys, and just work hard. The Raiders shouldn't have an issue with that with their rookie class, as you can tell the guys that they drafted fit the profile of the culture they have in place.
But, just in case, it's always good for a guy who's been in the building for a few years, to let him know, especially when you are former teammates from college, and especially when you are going against each other every day.
"Man, Caleb Rogers has always been a guy with great energy," Tyree Wilson told reporters at mandatory minicamp last week. "Good guy, always down to work. He transitioned that over here to the Raiders, me and him line up a little bit across from each other some reps. And I just tell them to keep your head down, don't get too cocky. Just always work."
Rogers doesn't come off as a guy that would be too cocky, so it's probably all fun and games that Wilson is approaching him with. They have a good relationship, and they are competing.
Rogers has let it be known, though, that he wants to be one of the guys who brings the energy every day. So, can he do that without being cocky and talking trash, and you know, kind of knowing his place as a rookie? It seems like he can.
