Doug Pederson 'fully expects' to return as Eagles head coach in 2021

The Philadelphia Eagles were eliminated from the NFC East title race on Sunday following a 37-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. They were also the first NFC East team eliminated from postseason contention.

Despite Philly's woes this season, head coach Doug Pederson admitted that he "fully expects" to return as head coach of the Eagles in 2021, according to ESPN's Tim McManus.

"I feel fully confident to be the head coach of the Eagles in 2021," Pederson said during his radio appearance on 94.1 WIP Monday morning, per ESPN. "The thing I'm most proud of, this football team, we have been in the postseason three of the last five years since I've been here, and that's pretty good. We have won a championship here. We have gone through a season where a lot of our veteran guys are not playing due to injury. We are playing with a lot of young players."

"There is always going to be evaluation in the offseason, and my job is evaluated as well. But I fully expect to be the coach next season, and I welcome the opportunity to get things right, get things fixed and take this team into next season."

The Eagles, who are 4-10-1 on the season, were supposed to have an advantage this year as the only NFC East team to have its coaching staff return in 2020. Unfortunately, that continuity could not overcome injuries and poor quarterback play.

Carson Wentz had the worst year of his career, going 3-8-1 while completing 57.4% of his passes for 2,620 yards and 16 touchdowns against an NFL-leading 15 interceptions through 13 weeks. He also led the NFL in sacks and fumbles.

Pederson reiterated week after week that Wentz would remain the team's starter before deciding to bench him in early December in favor of rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts, who has been solid in three starts thus far.

Philly is set to finish with its worst record since 2012. It won't be surprising to see Pederson return, though the Eagles could consider a coaching change with a number of talented candidates expected to be available.
