Draft expert reveals Commanders rookie gem who dazzled at OTAs

Adam Peters wasn't blessed with more than five picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. But it again looks like the general manager made them count based on early impressions.

The Washington Commanders took some big risks in the trade market, which diminished their assets considerably. Peters opted to stand pat and resist offers to move back over the first two rounds. He thought the talent available was too tempting to ignore. And if they hit the ground running, head coach Dan Quinn's squad will be well-placed to go deep into the postseason once again.

One draft expert highlighted a high-profile rookie gem who's been generating significant praise around the league. If the same trend continues when things get more intense over the summer, Quinn and his accomplished coaching staff would be wise to get him involved prominently when Week 1 against the New York Giants rolls around.

Trey Amos extended his positive Commanders' transition at OTAs

Ryan Fowler from The Draft Network, citing conversations he's had with people around the league, singled out Trey Amos as a player gaining significant traction during his early transition. The physically imposing cornerback is standing out during practices, eager to silence his doubters after he slid to No. 61 overall before Washington ended his dramatic slide.

Amos was projected by some analysts to have a first-round grade before falling to the end of the second round. This was due to a back issue that came up during medical assessments. The Commanders didn't seem overly concerned, and Peters believed in the former Ole Miss standout enough to take the plunge.

The defensive back is eager to repay this faith. Fowler isn't the only one hearing good things about Amos. Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr. have both praised his application and tone-setting mentality. Marshon Lattimore's absence from voluntary OTAs gave him a chance to firmly establish himself. He's grasped it with both hands.

There is a long way to go and a lot of hard work ahead. However, the early signs couldn't be more promising where Amos is concerned.

If the second-round pick maintains these standards when things are more intense at training camp and whenever he is involved during the preseason, a starting job right out of the gate won't be too far behind.

Washington has a solid cornerback room with five options capable of logging reps on the rotation. Some will be short-term solutions. Some won't meet their billing. But Amos has the scope to be another long-term option for the Commanders to build around in the secondary.

Amos came into the franchise with a lofty reputation on the back of some exceptional production in college. Everything is going according to plan so far, and the Commanders stand to benefit greatly if this positive initial form transitions to a competitive setting in 2025.
