Drake Maye addresses his study of Tom Brady

Shortly after New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel brought offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels back to the organization this past winter, second-year New England quarterback Drake Maye noted that he was going to review film of all-time great Tom Brady playing in McDaniels' offense.

During a Wednesday appearance on the FanDuel TV "Up & Adams" program, Maye was asked what he has learned from those study sessions.

"I think the one thing with Tom, he always knew where to go with the football," Maye explained, as shared by Lauren Campbell of MassLive. "He was great with knowing where to go with the football, beating blitzers, knowing where to go before he got the snap. ...And his feet were always in the ground, ready to throw."

Of the seven Super Bowl rings Brady earned during his Hall of Fame career, he acquired six while working with McDaniels. Meanwhile, Pro Football Reference shows only 12 quarterbacks took more sacks than Maye (34) during his rookie season. That's somewhat alarming considering he made only 12 starts and appeared in 13 games. Logic suggests that the 22-year-old learning how to better read blitzes before he snaps the ball will help him avoid some drive-killing plays.

"Those are the big things I saw from watching him on tape," Maye added while speaking about Brady. "The stuff you see on TV with the leadership, and then now knowing what he was doing, is pretty cool."

The leadership comment shouldn't be overlooked, as both Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf and Vrabel spoke during the offseason about how they'd like Maye to improve that aspect of his work. Earlier in the summer, former Patriots linebacker and current Boston sports radio personality Ted Johnson said that he had reason to believe Maye hadn't yet "fully accepted that part of the job."

For what it's worth, Maye invited multiple teammates to workouts held in his hometown near Charlotte ahead of training camp.

Brady is widely respected as one of the greatest locker-room and on-the-field leaders in NFL history. Perhaps Maye should attempt to speak with Brady about becoming the CEO of New England's offense before the Patriots open the upcoming season with a matchup versus the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 7.
