Drew Brees' Future At ESPN Revealed After Monday Night Appearance

Former All-Pro quarterback Drew Brees was a guest analyst on Monday Night Countdown at ESPN this past week and performed significantly than in previous attempts at being an analyst. But does he have a future at the Worldwide Leader in Sports?

The answer, at least for the time being, appears to be "no." According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Brees is not being hired at ESPN and his appearance this week wasn't any sort of audition for another role with the company.

"I checked with my sources at ESPN about the Super Bowl winner. No, Brees isn’t being hired full-time by ESPN. No, Monday night was not an audition for a bigger role," McCarthy wrote.

"But never say never, they cautioned. Some NBC executives saw the 45-year-old Brees as a potential successor to Cris Collinsworth as the network’s lead NFL analyst on Sunday Night Football. After mangling his call of a Bengals vs. Raiders playoff game, it will be a long time before anybody sees Brees as capable of calling another playoff game, much less a Super Bowl.

"But the future Pro Football Hall of Famer told Front Office Sports Today back in September he wants another crack at the broadcast booth. Don’t be surprised if he gets it."

Brees was widely panned for his performance as an analyst at NBC Sports in 2021 and has not been employed by one of the major sports networks since.

But turnover has become pretty constant in NFL media as established names get fired and fresher faces get hired on a fairly regular basis. While second chances aren't always the norm in the industry, they can happen with the right combination of circumstances.

Will Brees get another crack at being an NFL analyst on a full-time basis? Or does the stink of his first outing as an analyst continue to follow him around?
