New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is reportedly signing a television deal with NBC Sports over ESPN, according to the New York Post's Andrew Marchand.
The 41-year-old will likely join the broadcast booth as a Notre Dame game analyst and a studio analyst for "Football Night in America," then eventually replace Cris Collinsworth on the "Sunday Night Football" broadcast after he retires, Marchand notes.
“Like all NFL fans, we look forward to watching Drew continue his Hall of Fame career this fall, and we are confident his post-playing career will be just as successful,” NBC Sports spokesman Greg Hughes told the New York Post.
ESPN had interest in signing Brees for "Monday Night Football," but Marchand's reports that NBC's offer is competitive to ESPN's of around $6 million.
While Brees signed a two-year, $50 million deal this offseason to remain with the Saints, New Orleans will have the option to move on from him after the 2020 season, if they feel that's the right move.
Brees, like Brady, probably plans to continue his career until the end of his two-year deal. His contract with NBC Sports will provide him with some nice financial compensation, and he'll likely be a strong competitor to CBS' Tony Romo.
