DT Johnathan Hankins Retires

The Giants selected the Ohio State product in the second round of the 2013 draft. He served as mostly a backup during his rookie campaign, but he started all 16 of his appearances as a sophomore, finishing with seven sacks (which ended up representing his career-high). He was limited in 2015 thanks to a torn pectoral muscle but returned to start all 16 of his appearances in 2016.

Hankins parlayed that performance into a three-year, $30MM contract with the Colts. He started all 15 of his appearances during the 2017 campaign, but he was let go after only one year in Indy because of the organization’s concern about his fit with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus‘ system. He caught on with the Raiders and proceeded to spend four-plus seasons with the organization, starting 61 of his 66 games.

He was traded to the Cowboys during the 2022 season and stuck around for the entire 2023 campaign, when he finished with 27 tackles and three sacks. He spent the 2024 campaign in Seattle, where he started eight games.

He stuck with the Seahawks for the 2025 season but didn’t get into a game because of a back injury. He was released by the organization in early December.

Hankins finishes his career with 433 tackles, 18.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles in 169 games. He got into another five playoff contests, adding 15 tackles and two sacks to his resume.
