DT Larry Ogunjobi on joining Steelers: HC Mike Tomlin 'kept it real'

The reality of the situation is that veteran defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi would be a member of the Chicago Bears today via a three-year, $40.5 million contract had he not failed a physical in March for reasons related to the right foot injury he suffered while featuring for the Cincinnati Bengals during the playoff win over the Las Vegas Raiders in January.

What's done is done, and the former member of the Bengals and Cleveland Browns ultimately put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers that reportedly could be worth up to $8 million. According to Hunter Muro of Steelers Depot, Ogunjobi spoke with SiriusXM NFL Radio's "Movin' The Chains" about how Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin recruited him to the Steel City.

"He just kept it real. I think that's the best way to describe it," Ogunjobi said of Tomlin. "He's just a real dude. He's not gonna play with you. He's not gonna mess around. He's gonna keep it 100. And I think that's really important, especially in this league, having somebody that is just gonna talk to you like a man, tell you what it is and we're gonna build a relationship organically. None of the fluff, none of the 'this and that.' Let's build this as men and organically and see where this thing goes. So once again, I'm excited."

While with the Bengals last season, Ogunjobi set career marks with seven sacks, 12 tackles for loss and 16 quarterback hits. Tomlin and company are likely hoping a motivated 28-year-old hasn't yet reached his ceiling and will prove to be a tremendous value acquisition.
