EA Sports removing CPR celebration from game after Damar Hamlin incident

EA Sports is removing the CPR celebration from its popular "Madden" video game, according to a report from TMZ Sports.

A spokesperson for the company told the website that an update for the game will see the celebration removed after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin needed CPR on the field in Cincinnati a little more than a week ago.

The celebration involves a player — the one who made the big play — laying on his back on the field while a teammate rushes in to mimic CPR.

Along with being a popular virtual celebration in the video game, it is one that has also been used by real players in actual NFL games. That includes, quite surprisingly, this past Sunday in the Pittsburgh Steelers-Cleveland Browns game following a big play by outside linebacker Alex Highsmith. He apologized for his role in the celebration on Monday given the poor timing of it.

Hamlin is back home in Buffalo and showing a strong recovery after spending a week in a Cincinnati hospital, including two days where he was sedated.

Hamlin is a second-year safety out of the University of Pittsburgh and was a sixth-round pick by the Bills a year ago. He became a starter this season.

The Bills are the No. 2 seed in the AFC and host the Miami Dolphins in the wild-card round of the playoffs on Sunday.
