Eagles’ 2024 home opener features Jason Kelce, but not in uniform

The Philadelphia Eagles are once again expected to be one of the NFL’s best teams next season. Their 2024 schedule is being leaked and will be officially released soon, giving them the journey they have to traverse as they look to get back to the Super Bowl and finish the job.

The Eagles’ season starts on the road in Brazil, where they will face the Green Bay Packers in the first of five international games. Unfortunately for Philly, that game counts as a home contest. In Week 2, they’ll actually be at home and host the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football. The matchup was first reported by PHLY Sports’ Anthony Gargano and later confirmed by WSB-TV’s Zach Klein and NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Schultz pointed to a part of the matchup that Philly fans will love: Eagles legend Jason Kelce will be on the ESPN pregame show. As he transitions into his post-playing career into a gig with ESPN on Monday Night Countdown, he will get another look at his old team when they face the Falcons.

Kelce called it a career after 13 seasons with the Eagles that featured the franchise’s first championship and seven Pro Bowls. He anchored their offensive line, making the unit one of the very best in football for a long time along with stars like Lane Johnson, Jason Peters, Brandon Brooks and Landon Dickerson and offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland. Kelce’s love for the game couldn’t keep him fully away, though, and he’ll be breaking down games throughout the season.

Eagles vs. Falcons which will feature Kirk Cousins coming down to Lincoln Financial Field in Week 2 for the third straight season. His Minnesota Vikings teams have taken an L in each of the last two Week 2 showdowns at the Linc, both of which were also prime-time games (MNF in 2022 and Thursday Night Football last season). Philly will look to take down a different flock of football birds in front of its home crowd while Cousins hopes to lead Atlanta to an early statement win.

The Falcons believe that Cousins can tap into a core of young playmakers in Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, Drake London, Rondale Moore, Darnell Mooney and Tyler Allgeier. With a decent defense already in place, Atlanta could be a top contender in the NFC South, though in that weak division, it doesn’t take much.

The Eagles expect to be better, too, after an epic crash-and-burn ending to last season. Saquon Barkley gives their offense even more juice. They reshuffled their defense by switching Haason Reddick out for Bryce Huff, bringing back C.J. Gardner-Johnson and adding rookie cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. Philadelphia is looking to be the top dog in the NFC once again.
