Eagles' 2026 offseason will expose what no other NFL team wants out there

In an offseason that felt calm compared to what Philadelphia Eagles fans are accustomed to, 2026 is poised for something special.

After winning the Super Bowl, 11 players on last year's roster departed who were considered key contributors. Some of those top players include Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, Darius Slay, Mekhi Becton, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

Philadelphia added 12 players in free agency to one-year contracts and two others via trade. During the 2025 NFL Draft, the Eagles selected 10 players.

The work put into this offseason was part of Eagles general manager Howie Roseman's plan to initiate the youth movement in 2025. It will also set the franchise up for what could be an insane 2026 offseason for Philadelphia.

Eagles' 2026 offseason should scare the other 31 NFL teams

In a recent CBS Sports article, Tyler Sullivan identified five teams that are well-positioned for a big 2026 offseason. The Eagles, of course, were included as they are expected to have plenty of trade assets to make some bold moves.

"Already, Philadelphia was armed with nine total picks, which was tied for the second most in the league. However, the Eagles are projected to receive three more selections, including a third- and fourth-round compensatory pick for losing Williams and Sweat this offseason. In total, that gives Roseman 12 total picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Given his affinity for trades, folks better get their popcorn ready.

While $27.25 million puts Philly roughly in the middle of the pack in terms of cap space next offseason, the Eagles have a chunk of their core already under contract, so they could still add a noteworthy piece or two."

The Eagles have been one of the best teams in the NFL at working the salary cap, effectively moving money around to give them what they need to sign players. Roseman has also demonstrated a good grasp of when to let players walk in free agency or trade them for rising stars on the bench.

Philadelphia has a strong belief in its young players, including Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Sydney Brown, Nolan Smith Jr., Jalen Carter, and Jordan Davis, to assume larger roles in 2025. That flexibility to lean on their youth has helped the Eagles avoid spending big money in the offseason, aside from a few contract extensions.

Roseman was also very meticulous about how he set up 2026, as 2025 will be the benchmark for where the young players are. If they are not developing as needed, Philadelphia has the salary cap to make one or two moves to address a roster issue.

NFL teams are not going to love seeing the over $27 million and 12 draft picks the Eagles will have next offseason, as it only means Roseman is going to work his magic to perfection.
