Philadelphia still has unfinished business as far as Super Bowl LIX is concerned but that hasn’t stopped Eagles fans from looking ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft, where one expert has the team adding a highly-ranked edge-rusher.
In his latest mock draft, Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus has the Eagles drafting 31st overall. He expects Pro Bowl edge-rusher Josh Sweat to test the free agent market in the offseason which could leave the team in a tough spot with defensive end Brandon Graham already planning to retire.
Factor in another expiring contract for fellow defensive end Milton Williams and it’s easy to see why Cameron has Philadelphia taking Ohio State’s Jack Sawyer.
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive end joked about returning for a fifth year during a parade to celebrate the team’s national championship victory over Notre Dame before admitting his coaches told him it was time to go. Rest assured, Sawyer is no joke.

Sawyer had an outstanding senior year for the Buckeyes, posting career-highs in tackles (59), solo tackles (25), sacks (nine) and forced fumbles (three). He also defended six passes and had an interception against Michigan in his final game at Ohio Stadium.
Cameron believes a player with Sawyer’s title-winning resume could have early success on a franchise with Philadelphia’s championship pedigree.
Clutch Points’ Matty Breisch couldn’t agree more, saying Sawyer “has fantastic size for a 3-4 outside linebacker, can attack the pocket from a two-point or four-point stance, and, most importantly of all, can set a strong edge against the run.”
He goes on to say general manager Howie Roseman “should rush the card up to the podium, as the OSU edge might just be the most Vic Fangio player in the 2025 NFL Draft.”
That’s high praise given how Fangio overhauled the team’s defense in 2024.
Of course, it’s early and Sawyer’s name will be linked to several teams over the next few months. Breisch himself believes the Los Angeles Rams will give him a look at pick No. 26. Time will tell but you can bet an old school coordinator like Fangio would love to have him in Philadelphia.
He had 13 tackles and 4.5 sacks in this year’s CFP but his best game came in November against Northwestern when the Ohio native made seven tackles with a forced fumble and recovery.
