Eagles at risk of losing both coordinators after the Super Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles' focus is on Super Bowl LVII, which appears to be the final game under their current coaching staff.

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Arizona Cardinals plan to interview Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon on Monday. Rapoport says Gannon has emerged as a leading candidate in their HC search.

Philadelphia's DC might not be the only coordinator on the move. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Indianapolis Colts "have targeted" Eagles OC Shane Steichen as their next HC. On Sunday, the Colts informed other candidates that they were out of the running.

Gannon has done a phenomenal job overseeing Philadelphia's formidable defense this season, which allowed 18.8 points per game, tied for the third-best mark in the NFL. The Eagles have 78 sacks this season, including in the playoffs. They need five sacks on Sunday to dethrone the 1984 Chicago Bears for the most all-time, including the playoffs.

The 40-year-old has probably been the frontrunner for the Arizona HC job for some time. Since neither Eagles assistant can accept a position until after the Super Bowl, Arizona's interviews with other candidates were likely more due diligence.

Steichen, who finished third in the NFL Assistant Coach of the Year Award voting, led the Eagles to the league's third-highest ppg average this season. His experience working with former Colts OC Nick Sirianni for the last two seasons may have strengthened his case during the interview process.

Indianapolis' offense was abysmal this season, only averaging 17 ppg, third worst in the league. The franchise will likely select a QB in April's draft, so that's all the more reason to hire an offensive-minded coach like Steichen.

It's not too often a team loses both coordinators to HC jobs in the same offseason, as pointed out by ESPN's Field Yates. The last time a team experienced such a thing was the 2013 Bengals, when Jay Gruden departed for Washington and Minnesota hired Mike Zimmer.

With Steichen seemingly headed to Indianapolis, the expectation is Eagles QB coach Brian Johnson will become the OC, per Schefter. Several teams asked him to interview for their respective OC positions, but Philadelphia is the most talented offense he could run.

If Sunday is their last dance together, it's even more essential Steichen and Gannon call the game of their lives. The transition from Philadelphia to Indianapolis and Arizona is unlikely to be seamless.

Super Bowl LVII will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET. Philadelphia is a one point favorite, per Oddschecker
