The Philadelphia Eagles started off free agency with an extremely lackluster effort. They failed to re-sign any of their major free agents and didn’t bring in anyone from the outside.
Howie Roseman is not one to sit on his hands and do nothing, so this, of course, has changed over the past few days. He has been active in improving the Eagles, with the address of Riq Woolen and a few moves to bolster the tight end room. Roseman’s most recent moves added much-needed depth to key positions on defense, something that has been lacking in recent years.
Jonathan Jones is a 32-year-old cornerback with a career spanning ten seasons. He spent the first nine years of his career with the New England Patriots before moving on to the Washington Commanders last season. During his time in New England, he became a two-time Super Bowl champion.
Jones is not in contention to start for Philadelphia, but he will provide much-needed veteran depth to a room full of young corners. The CB position has been a troubling one for the Eagles, especially when a starter goes down with an injury. This addition will hopefully make those incidents a little less costly and provide the team with a solid backup.
Arnold Ebiketie is a 27-year-old EDGE rusher with four seasons of experience, all of which came with the Atlanta Falcons. He is a Penn State alum with 16.5 career sacks in the NFL.
Ebiketie is coming off a down year, but he posted six sacks in each of the two previous seasons. The former second-round pick has the traits to make an impact when given the opportunity. He won’t be a game changer in Philadelphia, but the increased depth will be big as long as the starters can be improved. EDGE is likely a position that the Eagles will target in the 2026 NFL draft.
Philadelphia needed to make moves, and bolstering the team’s depth is key to surviving the NFL season. Roseman has done an excellent job bouncing back from a rough day one, and it’s very likely he’s not done improving the roster.
