While speaking at an event on Monday, Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham had some fun at the expense of Giants fans, who have claimed they are fine with the fact that star running back Saquon Barkley left New York to sign with Philadelphia in free agency.
"We know that people are p----d about it," Graham said about the situation, per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. "They hope that nothing comes of it. I know that’s how mad some people are about it."
The Giants seemingly had little interest in locking Barkley down via a long-term deal to his liking before they let him hit the open market. He signed a three-year, $37.75M contract that could be worth up to $46.75M with $26M fully guaranteed to join the Eagles, who have participated in the postseason six times across the past seven years. Graham noted that Barkley "is definitely in a good place right now" after the 2018 first-round draft pick played in just two total playoff games with the Giants over his first six pro seasons.
"It sucked for the Giants fans because that’s like us losing our top guy," Graham said about Philadelphia's offseason gain. "I understand business is business, but I know Saquon definitely is looking forward to this season."
CBS Sports NFL analyst Emory Hunt predicted last week that the Eagles "will win 13 or 14 games" and "will have the best record in the NFC" this season, thanks largely to what Barkley will offer the club's offense. Graham suggested he's excited about what's to come after the 2023 Eagles went from 10-1 to 11-6 before they lost at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
"I don’t want to predict nothing, but I know we do have a good squad and I’m expecting big things," Graham added.
Barkley will return to MetLife Stadium as an Eagles player when Philadelphia plays at the Giants in Week 7 on Oct. 20. Graham thinks Barkley being booed in East Rutherford would just "be one of those things" but hopes the two of them, along with their teammates, will have the last laugh that Sunday afternoon.
