Eagles CB Cooper DeJean Receives Punishment Decision From NFL

Cooper DeJean and the Philadelphia Eagles advanced to 9-5, following a dominant 31-0 Week 15 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. It's the first game this season that Philadelphia's defense held an opponent to zero points.

The cornerback was a contributor to the performance, with four tackles, which was tied for the second-most on the team. However, he was responsible for one of the three penalties accepted against the Eagles.

On third-and-8 with 3:35 left in the first quarter, Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham sacked Raiders quarterback Kenny Pickett for an eight-yard loss. However, that was negated after DeJean was penalized for unnecessary roughness for shoving Raiders wide receiver Tyler Lockett after the play and defensive holding.

The unnecessary roughness was accepted, and holding declined, giving the Raiders 15 yards of field position. Las Vegas ended the drive with a turnover after failing to convert on fourth down.

The 15 yards didn't have a very big impact on the outcome of the game, but did put DeJean in a vulnerable position. The penalty could have been considered a late hit. According to the NFL rulebook, this can result in an $11,593 fine and can increase to $17,389 for a second violation in the same season.

On Saturday, the NFL revealed its official ruling on the play in its Week 15 game day accountability report. After further review, the league opted not to fine DeJean for his shove that knocked down Lockett.

After not receiving an additional punishment, DeJean and the Eagles prepare for a Week 16 matchup against the 4-10 Washington Commanders.
