Eagles CB Darius Slay jokes all rookies could move in with him
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles veteran cornerback Darius Slay is ready to teach rookie corners, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, everything they need to know to succeed in the NFL.

“That’s the main thing to teach them how to be a pro,” Slay said following Wednesday's voluntary practice. “I was talking to them today, just let them know I’m always here for y’all boys, anything y’all need from me I’ve got you.”

Being a leader comes naturally for Slay since he's been doing it for most of his life as the oldest sibling in his family.

“(I’m) going to give them the blueprint of everything to help make sure they succeed at this level,” Slay said. “That’s my job to do, that’s what I’ve always been brought up to do. Definitely, because I’m the older brother out of all the siblings so it’s always been my duty to lead and help them make sure they get the right directions.”

Are the Rookies Moving in With Slay?

The day the Eagles drafted Mitchell in the first round with the 22nd over pick, general manager Howie Roseman told the rookie corner that he wanted him to move in with Slay.

Slay was [jokingly] all for it.

"Yeah, all of 'em could," Slay said seriously before cracking a smile. "Nah, but he is welcome. Anything he needs from me I told him I got him. After he got drafted, he hit me up. We talked for a little bit and I just told him, 'Whatever you need. Let's get it. I'm here to help you be great.'"

Wednesday was the first time Slay saw Mitchell work out in person and the veteran was impressed.

"A lot of great things," Slay said. "Quick dude that's got a quick twitch. I love his off-man. You know I'm real good at off-man what I do. I watched his tape in college for a good minute. Some things that I'm gonna help him with that he asked me already to do and that's my duty to do. I'm looking forward to helping him because I see great talent in him. Looking forward to seeing him make a lot of plays for this organization."

Slay also had plenty of positive things to say about DeJean.

"Oh, man. Good. He's very athletic," Slay said excitedly. "As you can see, a guy that's versatile. He was everywhere. Right now both of them are just quiet, so I'm trying to get them to talk a little bit. But, both of these guys are very athletic. Very talented. I'm looking forward to keep working with them.

"This is my first day with them. And besides watching their film, seeing them live in person is amazing to watch. And I just remember my days from me being young."
