Eagles' C.J. Gardner-Johnson calls out Jonathan Gannon in deleted tweet

Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson called out his former defensive coordinator, Jonathan Gannon, on Twitter, blaming him for the team's shortcomings in Super Bowl LVII.

Gardner-Johnson then deleted the tweet.

The Eagles fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35 in the title game, marking the second-highest number of points Philadelphia allowed in a game during the 2022 campaign. The Eagles allowed only seven points in each of their first two playoff games and hadn't given up more than 20 points since Week 16 when they lost to the Dallas Cowboys 40-34.

After the vaunted Philadelphia defense held Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to 14 points in the first half, Kansas City erupted for 24 points after intermission, including 17 in the fourth quarter. The Eagles allowed 158 rushing yards, forced zero turnovers and stunningly recorded no sacks.

The Philadelphia defense also saw a gimpy Mahomes go 21-for-27 for 182 passing yards and three touchdowns while adding six carries for 44 yards.

Gardner-Johnson finished the contest with two solo tackles and two assisted tackles.

The 25-year-old missed five games during the 2022 season due to a lacerated kidney, but still set career highs in solo tackles (61) and interceptions (six), the latter of which tied for the most in the NFL. Gardner-Johnson is set to hit free agency but has expressed his desire to stay with the NFC champions.

Gannon was hired as the Arizona Cardinals' new head coach in mid-February.
