Eagles Claim Saquon Barkley Backup Off Waivers
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles demonstrated dominance in near all facets of the game last season en route to the franchise's second Super Bowl victory in February. Offense, defense or special teams the Eagles rarely exhibited any exploitable weaknesses.

But the running game may have been their supreme strength. The Eagles averaged 179.3 rushing yards per game, the top figure across an NFC that had four of the five best rushing offenses in the NFL last season.

Friday afternoon, that backfield got a tick stronger with an addition to their current 90-man roster.

Philadelphia has claimed former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Keilan Robinson off of waivers, the team announced. They are waiving wide receiver Ife Adeyi to complete the move.

Robinson hit the waiver wire just a day before finding his new home after the Jaguars released him on Thursday.

Robinson's role in Jacksonville was mainly special teams focused when he appeared in six games as a rookie. The former fifth-round pick had a couple returned two kickoffs for 34 yards through that campaign.

It makes sense that the Eagles appear to have him focused in that area with an already crowded backfield. MVP candidate Saquon Barkley commands much of that attention, following a 2,000-yard season that was arguably a conservative coaching decision away from breaking Eric Dickerson's regular season record.

The Eagles also have Will Shipley in tow along with AJ Dillon who comes off four years as a featured back with the Green Bay Packers.

Philadelphia continues to progress through OTAs with mandatory minicamp set for a one-day session on June 10.
