Eagles DB Darius Slay delivers high praise for Bears QB Justin Fields

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields may not have left Soldier Field with a win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but he did leave with the respect of one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL.

Speaking to reporters after Philly’s 25-20 win, Eagles defensive back Darius Slay gave Fields rave reviews after the second-year QB nearly led the Bears back from a 12-point fourth quarter deficit.

“He’s a 4.4 (speed) guy,” Slay said. “That’s what makes it tough (to defend him). He’s not like a 4.7 (speed guy) that you can run down. When he gets in the open field he can make you miss and he can run past you. He’s a big threat man. Chicago got a lot of great upside coming from him, they’re going to have a great future with him. He’s special. He’s a highlight film for real. Kid is tough. He gets hit a lot, he gets up and keeps going.”

With his 95-yard rushing performance, Fields became just the third quarterback in NFL history to reach 1,000 yards rushing in a single season. He also completed 14 of 21 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. It was the fifth time in 13 games that Fields had a passer rating of 99 or better, and it was also the fifth time he completed 65% or more of his passes.

Fields’ 95 yards rushing were also the third-most Philly has allowed this season behind Detroit’s D'Andre Swift, who ran for 144 yards in Week 1, and Houston’s Dameon Pearce, who rushed for 139 yards in Week 9.
