Eagles DC Sean Desai considering Mike Adams for a role on his staff
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Now that the Eagles have officially hired Sean Desai to be their new defensive coordinator, there are still several moves that must be made to complete the defensive staff.

The current elephant in the room is the team’s DB coach, Denard Wilson. He was an internal candidate for the team’s DC position before they went ahead and chose Desai instead. He’s highly regarded by several Eagles players and many, like Darius Slay, felt that he was worthy of the promotion. What’s next for Wilson is the biggest question but in the meantime, Desai must continue to build his staff.

A source close to the situation has confirmed that former NFL defensive back, Mike Adams, will interview for a role on Desai’s staff. While that exact role has yet to be confirmed, Adams is absolutely in the mix to be on the Eagles coaching staff.

Mike Adams, 41, is a two-time Pro Bowler that played 16 seasons in the NFL. During his playing career, Adams recorded 935 tackles, 30 interceptions, 13 forced fumbles, and 6 sacks.

His most recent stint was with the Chicago Bears where he worked under Sean Desai as the team’s assistant DBs coach. Desai was the safeties coach in Chicago before being promoted to Defensive Coordinator.

Eagles rumored candidates

Adams is the second candidate that has been rumored to be in the mix for a role on Desai’s staff. It was rumored that Mike Pettine is also in the mix to be the team’s LB Coach but that has yet to be confirmed by the team. As the NFL combine is set to begin on Thursday, I would expect Desai and the Eagles to solidify the defensive staff sooner rather than later.
