Eagles dodge major bullet against Giants that will have the offense in a good spot moving forward

The Philadelphia Eagles picked a road win over rival New York Giants on Sunday, beating them 28-3 at MetLife Stadium to put themselves at 4-2 on the season and second in the NFC East.

The Birds were banged up heading into the matchup and without starting left tackle Jordan Mailata. They then lost right guard Mekhi Becton to a concussion in the first half against New York.

But Fred Johnson, who stepped in for Mailata, and Tyler Steen, who replaced Becton, showed they were more than capable of getting the job done.

Even without two of their best blockers on the offensive line, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley rushed for a season-high 176 rushing yards on 17 carries and a score in the win.

Three of those carries included runs for at least 35 yards, which is something that had not been done in the NFL since former New York Jets running back Isaiah Crowell did it during the 2018 season.

His longest run of the day was 55 yards.

The Eagles' offense totaled 340 yards and while they did allow quarterback Jalen Hurts to get sacked five times, they were three for three on fourth downs.

Depending on how bad Becton's concussion is, the Eagles could be without him again against the Cincinnati Bengals next week. They will, however, be without Mailata for at least the next three games.

But knowing Johnson and Steen are more than capable of stepping in there and opening up holes for Barkley puts the Eagles in a great spot moving forward.
