Jalen Carter has yet to miss a game early in the 2026 season. The Pro Bowl defensive tackle is not operating at full strength, however.
Carter is dealing with a hairline fracture in his right wrist, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The injury occurred in Week 1, and Carter has played with a soft cast on his hand ever since. His playing time for Weeks 2 and 3 represented a drop from the season opener.
“It’s a negative,” defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said when speaking about Carter’s injury and its impact on his workload and production. “There’s no way it can’t be, but to be honest with you, he’s done better than I thought he would with it.”
Carter has remained a full-time starter through three games in 2026, totaling 158 defensive snaps to date. The 25-year-old has posted just one sack and a pair of quarterback pressures, however. Carter’s impact against the run (including two tackles for loss) has fallen short of expectations as well. His ability to deliver a return to his previous form will be key on an Eagles defense which has struggled in a number of areas in 2026.
This past offseason saw the defensive tackle market reach new heights on multiple occasions. Carter benefitted from that, landing a four-year, $152MM extension in training camp. That pact has the Georgia product under team control through 2031. Fellow former first-round DT Jordan Davis inked a big-money deal of his own, and he is on the books for the next four years as a result.
The play of the Carter-Davis tandem will be worth watching closely as the season progresses. In Carter’s case specifically, his production will no doubt be tied to his ability to play through the wrist fracture.
