Offense and Jalen Hurts

Should anyone still be asking if Jalen Hurts is the QB Philly desperately needed? Short answer is no. Jalen put on a show on the national stage on Monday night. Going 26/31 for 333 yards and a touchdown just in the air. He put up 57 yards on 11 carries and 2 touchdowns on the ground as well. Hurts is dynamic as well as his ability as a QB and RB make for a dangerous offense as it stands, let alone, having plenty of weapons at his disposal. His only flaw stat wise is a pick that wasn’t really his fault. Kenneth Gainwell tipped a pass into the hands of Vikings Jordan Hicks in the 4th quarter. Hurts ran the Eagles offense and looked to be in control pretty much all game. Furthermore, Hurts shouldn’t be a question anymore, it should be an expectation. Fun fact, PFF gave Jalen Hurts the #3 spot for QBs in the NFL.

DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert had 80 and 82 yards respectively. Left wide open, Quez Watkins had the lone touchdown from the air with a beautiful pass from Jalen Hurts. A.J. Brown failed to reach the end zone for the second time this season but he was active and opened the gates for Goedert and Smith.

Defense

The biggest improvement for the Eagles was hands down, the defense. Philly held the Vikings to just one touchdown and grabbed 3 picks from Kirk Cousins. Two of which came from passes intended for Vikings superstar Justin Jefferson. Slay picked up 2 picks in those situations and was on Jefferson all night. Jefferson ended the game with just 1 catch for 48 yards. The Vikings ground game was practically non existent as they totaled only 62 yards. Dalvin Cook had just 17 yards on 6 carries. Overall, the Eagles defense did exactly what they needed to do and they did it with flair.

Overall

The Eagles ran right through the Vikings and put on a show for their home opener in Philadelphia. Primetime was the perfect opportunity to showcase how the offseason changes made Philadelphia a contender for the NFC and the post season. Hurts has shown immense improvement over the past two games and shows promise for the future of the Eagles. The defense did their homework and came out to play, pulling a complete 180 from what we saw in the second half against the Lions. Philadelphia look to improve their winning streak to 3 against the Washington Commanders next week. Carson Wentz and the Commanders offense has shown to punish teams that sleep on them. Regardless, the Eagles will have to come with what they gave the Vikings in this divisional matchup. Lastly, Fly Eagles Fly.
